Wokingham
If ever you needed evidence as to the total mess this country's planning system is in the saga at Wokingham provides it.
From the start the planning authority indicated support for a small unit industrial scheme to provide nursery units for small starter businesses and I can only be grateful because if they had not been in favour the site would still be lying idle.
It took over 15 months to secure the consent and during that time 5 planning officers were involved and this lack of continuity meant that even when progress appeared to be made we were back to square one again.
The local residents were given far too much reference despite living next to an old factory which has been used for heavy industry and could have continued in the same way. Anglo's proposals for new modern light operations with small traffic flow should have been welcomed with open arms but were not and their objections have led to costly delays.
This is a gripe and I accuse the officers and to an extent the elected members of contributing little to the improvement of the town of Wokingham.
I am pleased and relieved to say that despite all the obstacles put in the way, we got there, and the scheme completed during 2009.
Units 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 22, 24 are now disposed of.
